The young author and traveller Ms Stacy You (You Zhiwei, 印度神尤遊印度) writes about her personal impressions of her first visit to the India Taipei Association in Taipei.
Full text of the original Chinese comment is given in the original post. Free translation of select excerpts is provided here. We wish Stacy all the best.
“You are just like Taiwan’s Google street view map for India,” said Mr Sridharan Madhusudhanan, Director General of India Taipei Association. I guess this is the most fascinating way I heard someone describe me.
To be honest, I was flattered when I received a call from his office inviting me to meet him. In my hectic and chaotic schedule, I managed to meet him on Friday, just four days before I returned to India.
Mr Sridharan was very considerate. He said he wanted to organise an event at the India Taipei Association. However, it was my fault. My schedule was completely booked. I could only hope for another opportunity on my next visit.
Mr Sridharan pulled out a copy of my book. He said that though he could not completely read the book, he felt the strong local touch in it. He added that my writing is neither aloof nor highbrow but a personal narrative based on real observation of the lives of Indian people. This distinguishes this book from some other writings which have a sense of remoteness
....
Shocked! Every word he said was exactly how I felt.
....
He asked me about the topics I cover in my Talks on India. He said we could plan to do an India Afternoon, with my Talk, Indian music and many other fun things about India. It rocks, doesn't it?
....
He mentioned his expectation for Taiwan’s new southbound policy. Just like a father figure, he told me about the directions in my future development. It was warmhearted.
....
“I think you define the new generation. People like you are bridges”, he said
.....
"You don’t cut ties with your roots. At the same time, you don't permit it to shackle and prevent you from moving forward. On the contrary, you people are like bridges linking different cultures and enable better understanding between the cultures", he said. I felt touched.
....
Oh….although I don’t really know Director General Sridharan, we had a very delightful conversation in our first meeting. I’m looking forward to further developments between India and Taiwan. Go! Go! Go!
Indian Afternoon
Rock!
Go! Go! Go!
